Royal visitor announced for East of England Show

HIS Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales will be the very special guest of honour at this year’s East of England Show.

The Prince has accepted an invitation from the Show’s host, the East of England Agricultural Society, to attend the event on the opening day, Friday July 6th.

While here, The Prince is keen to see as much of the Show as possible and has agreed to a busy itinerary that will include a variety of rural and environmental stands.

The Prince will also present a number of awards including Long Service prizes, the Farm Business awards and Apprentice of the Year.

The Prince is also Patron of the British Horse Loggers who will be part of The British Festival of the Working Horse, which has its debut at the Show this year.

Billed as the region’s premier country show and Peterborough’s largest family event, this year’s Show at the East of England Showground on July 6-8th signals three days of packed events and entertainment based primarily around a country theme.

Show committee chairman Andrew Riddington said: “This is the biggest rural event in the local calendar and celebrates everything that is great and good about the countryside. We are absolutely delighted that its standing as a major event has been further enhanced with news of Prince Charles’ attendance.”

The Prince of Wales last attended the Show in 2001. A painting of his visit hangs in the Society’s boardroom at the showground.

As a farmer himself, The Prince of Wales cares deeply about the British countryside and the welfare of those who live and work in it.

The Prince’s belief in the importance of the family farm in agriculture has led him to initiate a number of initiatives to help readdress the problems faced by communities in the countryside including The Prince’s Countryside Fund.

It's wonderful to see such a spectacular show staged on our doorstep rather than having to travel for miles. Peterborough Arena is perfect for large scale productions and I hope we will see many more in Peterborough.
